Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The lifeless body of 21-year-old Dhananjay Barik was discovered hanging from the upper tier of gallery-K at Eden Gardens. Barik, the son of a ground worker employed at the iconic stadium, had been missing since Sunday afternoon, and his absence raised concerns among family members.
The discovery was made by a caretaker who immediately reported the incident to senior officers. Preliminary investigations suggest that Barik, possibly grappling with depression, was unable to secure a job as a ground staff member at Eden Gardens, a position held by his father and uncle.
The family had filed a missing person report with the Maidan police station on Sunday. Barik resided with his father and uncle in the quarters designated for Eden Gardens' staff.
The authorities are now probing the circumstances surrounding Barik's death, determining whether it is a case of suicide or if other factors contributed to this tragic event. The deceased's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to gather further insights into the situation.
